The Washington Regional Alcohol Program, a local nonprofit, is offering free cab rides on March 16 and 17, 4 a.m.-4 p.m. each day, to alcohol-impaired drivers in an annual effort to deter drunk driving. During this combined 24-hour period, area residents celebrating with alcohol may call the toll-free SoberRide phone number, 1-800-200-TAXI, and be afforded a no-cost (up to a $50 fare) safe way home. AT&T Wireless users can call #-TAXI for the same service. Local taxicab companies provide this service to residents age 21 and older who otherwise may have attempted to drive home after drinking.
