The Quilters Unlimited 30th Annual Quilt Show will take place May 30-June 1 at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly. This is the largest non-juried quilt show on the East Coast. Inova Fair Oaks Hospital employees will honor Fairfax County emergency medical services workers on Friday, May 30 by washing their ambulances and fire trucks as a way to thank them for their hard work and dedication to the community. The hospital will also serve a barbecue lunch to any county EMS worker who drops by for the event. The barbecue will be from noon to 2 p.m. near the Emergency Department entrance of Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, 3600 Joseph Siewick Drive in Fairfax.

Dave Butz, former Washington Redskins all-pro defensive tackle and member of three Super Bowl teams, will host the fifth annual St. Jude Crush'n Clays' Clay Target Charity Classic. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 31 at the Arlington/Fairfax Izaak Walton League Chapter in Centreville. The event has raised $86,000 to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. It is hosted by the Virginia Shooting Sports Association and the Arlington/Fairfax Chapter of the Izaak Walton League in Centreville. The event, open to the public, will consist of four-person teams and individuals competing in a trapshooting format. The format allows novices to compete alongside experienced shooters. Volunteers with Greater D.C. Cares will do tree maintenance, this Saturday, May 31, from 8:45 a.m.-1 p.m., in Cub Run Stream Valley Park. It's part of the organization's annual Servathon Day and is being coordinated locally by Fairfax ReLeaf.
General tree maintenance will be done on trees planted between 1993 and 1998. It involves loosening or removal of tree protectors, identification and removal of invasive plants, and elimination of trash and debris. Volunteers will also prune and mulch this area and monitor the stream.
To reach Cub Run Stream Valley Park, from Route 29 west in Centreville, turn right onto Pleasant Valley Road and right onto Wetherburn Drive. Go to the second firebreak (open area with no houses or trees, after 15145 Wetherburn Drive) on the right. Follow the concrete path to the site. A small stream is to the right, and groups of white plastic tree protectors are to the left.
The USS Athena, a Northern Virginia science fiction and community service group, is sponsoring "Meteorites and Near Misses," a science talk on Saturday, May 31, at 2:30 p.m. at Chantilly Library, 4000 Stringfellow Road, Chantilly. The guest speaker is Greg Redfern, JPL Ambassador, who will be presenting a look at meteorites that have hit Earth, and those big ones that just missed us. The Prince William Art Society is seeking entries for its May 31 Fine Art and Craft Show. Meade's Art Studio will be holding its Eighth Annual Art Show at the Sully Station Community Center on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1. The Lane's Mill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution meeting on Saturday, June 7, will be an offsite visit to the Olive Garden restaurant in Fair Lakes.
