During American Education Week, Park View High School and the Teacher Cadets are sponsoring “Bring Your Parent to School Day”. Each grade will have a designated day for the students to eat lunch with their parent and have them attend a class together. All visitors must have ID. The time for lunch and class is 11:52 a.m.-1:52 p.m. for the following grades:

Tuesday, Nov. 18-Freshman

Wednesday, Nov. 19-Sophomores

Thursday, Nov. 20-Juniors

Friday, Nov. 21-Seniors.

Dominion High School, 21326 Augusta Drive, Sterling, will present "Our Town" Nov. 13-15 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. The Thornton Wilder classic is set at the turn of the century and teaches the value of every moment in the lives of the town's inhabitants. Parent University will hold a free class "Parenting 101"

Dominion High and ATLAS (Association of Titan Leaders Assisting Students) offers the Titan Advantage Card in support of the school and local businesses. The card, purchased for $10, can be used for service and product discounts at 12 participating merchants including food, oil change, sports team apparel and hair care. The Loudoun Arts Council (LAC) is looking for sophomore, junior and senior students in Loudoun County public and private schools to participate in its upcoming “Excellence in the Arts” program.

Information and entry forms can be obtained from high school art, drama, English and dance teachers, or guidance counselors, or from the LAC office.

Students may submit entries in up to three categories: theater, dance, vocal performance, instrumental performance, piano, visual arts, literary arts, and digital arts. Entry forms must be completed and mailed,

or faxed, to the LAC office by Dec. 5 along with a

$5 entry fee. Professional panels will jury the work of students and cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third-place winners in each category.

Submissions for the visual and digital arts as well as literary submissions are due Jan. 10, 2004 and should be delivered to the LAC office.

Competitions will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10 for

submissions in theater, dance, piano, vocal, and instrumental performances. A panel of judges will determine the award winners in each category.

The “Excellence in Arts” Awards Reception will be held on

Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004 at The Hill Playhouse in Middleburg

for winners, participants and their families, teachers, and judges with the student winners of each category performing their works. Submitted manuscripts will be available for reading and visual artwork will

be displayed. Cash awards will be presented. In

addition, the first place literary winner’s manuscript will be published in elan, a regional arts magazine published in Great Falls, Va.

Loudoun Volunteer Services is seeking nominations for Student Volunteer of the Month. Students will be recognized for their volunteer efforts during the 2003-2004 school year. Loudoun Volunteer Services is asking schools and other organizations such as non-profits, to nominate students, or groups of students, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, who volunteer their time in a variety of ways in their schools, churches and towns.

A one-page narrative may be sent to the Loudoun Volunteer Services Board at pivs@loudoun.gov or to 1 Harrison Street, SE, PO Box 7000, Leesburg, Virginia 20177.

The one page narrative should include the student's name, address, telephone number, school, and a description, including length of service of the exemplary volunteer efforts of the student.

Volunteers will be featured in the Loudoun Volunteer Services Newsletter and on the Loudoun County Government Web site.
