Woman at the Well meets Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m., at Fairfax Presbyterian Church, 10723 Main St., Fairfax. Christine Gramenopoulos, director of the Fairfax County chapter of Woman at the Well, will be the speaker. Free. Woman at the Well offers an opportunity to pray more effectively and to deepen understanding of prayer in order to draw closer to God. Woman at the Well hosts its annual Prayer Breakfast with guest speaker Vi Walker, the founder of Woman at the Well, on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Welcome Sunday. The Sydenstricker United Methodist Church celebrates Welcome Sunday on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m. in the grove adjacent to the church. There will be free food and activities for the children. Entertainment will be provided by the Brethren in Harmony, a Northern Virginia community chorus that sings gospel music in the barbershop style. To open its new fall schedule, Accotink Unitarian Universalist Church in Burke will host its in-gathering service on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. This service will feature an annual "Water Communion," followed by a potluck picnic. Two Sunday services as well as religious education classes resume on Sunday, Sept. 14, at new times of 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. The church offers classes for preschool through high school, a youth group for teens, adult programs and discussion groups. Kirkwood Presbyterian Church at 8336 Carrleigh Parkway in Springfield will begin its Fall Sunday School for all ages on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 9:15-10:30 a.m. In addition to preschool, elementary, junior high and senior high classes, Kirkwood offers two adult classes. Infant and toddler nurseries are also available. A special Healing Service with Pastor Bill Frasnelli will take place at Jubilee Christian Center on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to come, expecting to be touched by the power of God. St. Mark's Lutheran Church, located at 5800 Backlick Road in Springfield, hosts the opening day of Sunday School on Sept. 7. A special worship service takes place at 8:30 a.m., with a Sunday School opening at 9:45 a.m., and then a carnival with pony rides, moon bounce, games, music, face painting and more. Wednesday with the Community. On Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m., Terri L. Williams-Henderson, a parent trainer with First Home Care Corporation, will present pointers on parenting and give and introduction to First Home Care and the foster care program. Free prayer seminar. On Saturday, Sept. 13, The Prayer Center, a Christian-based organization that focuses on strengthening the prayer life of individuals, will sponsor an all-day prayer seminar. "Established in Righteousness" seminar. Aglow International, a nonprofit organization, will be sponsoring a one-day seminar on Saturday, Sept. 13. Mary Gay will be the guest speaker. “Dynamic Marriage” seminar. The Fairfax Church of Christ is offering “Dynamic Marriage,” an eight-week seminar to fine tune good marriages, strengthen weak marriages and heal broken marriages. The seminar is open to all and will begin Sunday, Sept. 14, at 5 p.m. with a short session. Each of the eight sessions is two and a half hours long. The cost is $155 per couple for materials. First Baptist Church, Springfield hosts a Country Fair Picnic on Sunday, Sept. 14 for members, friends and neighbors. The games and craft fair will begin at 4 p.m., at the church located at 7300 Gary St. The fun and games will feature a moon bounce, a puppet show by KayDee puppets, a juggler, and much, much more. The Fairfax Church of Christ is offering “Family Matters,” an eight-week intensive study into God’s plan for families. The study begins Sept. 14, and is open to all. In addition to presentations during Sunday morning worship, the church’s small group devotional ministry will be provided review materials that examine scripture-based families. "Women Prophets," a Bible Study Workshop presented by the Springfield Church of Christ, Scientist, will take place Saturday, Sept. 27, 1-3 p.m. The workshop will focus on Miriam, Moses' sister; Deborah, a judge; Huldah, who lived during the reign of Josiah; and Anna, from the book of Luke. "Growing Through Divorce." This eight-week workshop program discusses topics such as grieving the loss of the marriage, anger, rejection, forgiveness, loneliness and transitioning into single life. Career Net meets every Monday, from 7-9 p.m., at Accotink Unitarian Universalist Church in Burke. Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, located at 8336 Carrleigh Parkway in Springfield, supports a Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) program on the first Wednesday of each month.
