<sh>BZA Gives OK to Church

<bt>The Fairfax County Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) last week approved a special-permit request by Ox Hill Baptist Church of Chantilly and the Fairfax County Office of Partnerships. The permit allows the church to provide facilities that this county organization may use for a computer training lab.

<sh>Kustom Kastles Gets An OK

<bt>Next stop for Kustom Kastles is the Board of Supervisors. It got a green light last week from the Fairfax County Planning Commission. Proposed are five, single-family, detached homes near the intersection of Veronica Road and Fenbrook Drive, next to the Fair Lakes Chase subdivision.

But the developer must first obtain the county's blessing to have 2.6 acres rezoned from their current designation of one home per acre to two homes per acre in a cluster arrangement. The houses would constitute an infill development within an already-existing residential area and would be incorporated into the Fair Lakes Chase homeowners association.

"Initially, [county] staff recommended denial because of the layout and the ingress and egress to the property," said Sully District Planning Commissioner Ron Koch. "But the applicant worked with county staff [to remedy matters], so the Planning Commission approved it." That happened last Wednesday, Sept. 10; the supervisors will consider this case on Sept. 29.

<sh>McDonald's Also Gets Approval

<bt>The McDonald's in Centreville also got a favorable nod, last week, from the Planning Commission. The fast-food restaurant is seeking permission to open for business an hour earlier, at 4 a.m. Since McDonald's is making the changes requested of them, its request is now meeting with approval.

"They've removed all the painting on the upper tier [of the restaurant] and agreed to tint the windows to cut down on the lighting from the inside out," said Sully District Planning Commissioner Ron Koch. "And the exterior lighting will be in conformance with the county's new lighting ordinance." The matter goes to the Board of Supervisors on Sept. 29.

The subcommittee said he neglected his duties as a trustee, and he was ordered by the court to repay, with interest, fees he had paid himself as trustee. Mulford then complied, as ordered.
