RCC Approves Governance Changes

<bt>The Reston Community Center Board of Governors unanimously approved changes to its governing document, the Memorandum of Understanding, at its regular meeting Monday night. The changes include a provision that gives businesses in the Reston area a vote in the annual RCC preference poll, through which members of the RCC board are elected. Each commercial property within RCC’s special tax district, which includes Reston and a bit of the surrounding area, will have a single vote in the poll. Also, the board approved changes that increase the majority needed on the board to change the special tax rate or approve major capital improvements.

<sh>RA Officers To Be Elected

<bt>The president, vice president, treasurer and secretary of Reston Association’s Board of Directors will be elected at a special meeting Wednesday night. The officers are elected by the colleagues on the board by secret ballot. This year, both the president and vice president positions are vacant. Officers are typically elected based on seniority, leadership skills and experience with RA’s different committees. This election could prove important to the debate over proposed amendments to RA’s governing documents.

<sh>Bigger and Better RCC Website

<bt>After complaints that the Reston Community Center’s Website lacked content, the center has launched a comprehensive Website that will include information about RCC’s Board of Governors. By providing meeting minutes, agendas and supplementary material, the board will better the communication between the board and the general public, said RCC Governor Joe Lombardo. “It’s fantastic for our relations with the community,” he said. Once security issues are worked out this fall, RCC’s program offerings will be added to the site, and will allow the public to register for programs online.

<sh>Man Bitten by Dog in Reston Area

<bt>A 26-year-old Potomac Falls area man was bitten by a dog on Saturday, April 3 and Animal Control seeks the public's help in locating the owner. The man was walking in the 11400 block of West Washington Plaza in the Reston area when he was bitten by a black and white Shi-Tzu-type dog. The dog's owner did not speak to the victim about the dog bite. The owner was described as a white male, five feet ten inches tall, about 170 to 180 pounds, with black hair and a goatee. The victim was treated for a minor wound to his left leg. Anyone with information about the dog and/or its owner is asked to call Animal Control at 703-266-6490.
