Kelsey Coffin of Fairfax received the Emory & Henry College Transfer Honors Scholarship. Recipients of the scholarship are transfer students from two-year or four-year institutions. The Transfer Honors Scholarship is worth $2,500-4,000, depending on academic performance. Coffin is the daughter of Sheila D. and Robert H. Coffin Jr.
Morgan Padget of Fairfax, a senior psychology major in the College of Science at Virginia Tech, has been selected to be a Virginia Tech orientation leader.
Marymount University senior Cindy R. Jones of Fairfax has been awarded a $500 scholarship by Delta Mu Delta, the national honor society in business administration. Jones is pursuing her bachelor's of business administration, with a concentration in human resources. Jones earned her associate degree from Northern Virginia Community College and then transferred to Marymount University to complete her bachelor's degree. After graduation from Marymount, Jones plans to earn a master's degree in organizational counseling.
Ashley Wood of Fairfax was named to the dean's list at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. To qualify, students must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. She was also inducted to the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and into The National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is the daughter of Mary E. Wood and Roger D. Wood of Fairfax.
Mary H. Whitman, a rising senior majoring in music at Hollins University, has been named an honor student for the 2004 spring semester. To attain this distinction, students must earn at least a 3.5 average on a 4.0 scale. Whitman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Whitman, is a graduate of Robinson Secondary School.
Rebecca Marie Nelson of Fairfax, was awarded the Robert W. Tucker Award for the most distinguished senior thesis in international studies at John Hopkins University. Rebecca Marie Nelson is the daughter of Gregory and Jane Nelson and attend Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax. Majoring in international studies with a minor in economics, Nelson graduated in May 2004 with general and departmental honors.
