Bush Rally Draws Supporters, Protesters

President George W. Bush's (R) re-election campaign took a swing through Northern Virginia on Monday. The president spoke at an invitation-only rally at the Annandale campus of the Northern Virginia Community College. The Bush-Cheney campaign event drew 1,500 people.

The president's appearance also drew protests from Maleika Cole, Paul Shoemaker, Ryan McElveen and Samantha Clarkson, who graduated from George C. Marshall High School in June.

The students chose to protest based on their personal interests in the election by holding signs reading "Stop cutting Trees, Start cutting staff," "Kerry us home," and "No more tanks." The last sign contained pictures of SUVs and war tanks. As 18-year-olds, the November election will be their first opportunity to vote for a president.
