The Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) is hosting College for Kids, with day camps for all ages and interests.

* Academic Camp. Power Academy, for grades 1 through 8, focuses on developing English and math skills, but finds time for cultural history, art, basketball and soccer instruction as well. The four-week session is offered through Friday, Aug. 20. Students attend Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

The West Springfield Class of 1994 celebrate its 10-year reunion on Friday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Springfield Hilton. Friday evening is "Meet and Mingle." On Saturday, a Family Picnic at WSHS, and in the evening, a dinner reception at the Springfield Hilton. Jennifer Brumbaugh, a senior Girl Scout of Burke, recently received the Girl Scout Gold Award for her work in assembling quilts and blankets for the local American Red Cross chapter to use during disaster response. The Gold Award is the highest honor achievable in Girl Scouting.

Elaine Chang, a senior Girl Scout of Burke, recently received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor achievable in Girl Scouting. To achieve this award, Elaine and other volunteers visited nursing home residents regularly over 8 months.

Stephanie Hobart, a senior Girl Scout of Fairfax Station, recently received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor achievable in Girl Scouting. To achieve this accolade Stephanie conducted a Quilting Day with volunteers and donated the finished products to a hospital and local church to be used for terminally ill pediatric patients.

Anne Jaskot, a senior Girl Scout of Burke, recently received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor achievable in Girl Scouting. To achieve this recognition, Anne and other volunteers helped measure the level of light pollution in Fairfax County by organizing a star count.

Jessica Johnson, a senior Girl Scout of Burke, recently received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor achievable in Girl Scouting. To achieve this award, Jessica taught theater workshops to at-risk children in order to build their self-esteem, confidence, interaction with others and ability to read and memorize.

Alexis Kuiper, a senior Girl Scout of Fairfax, recently received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor achievable in Girl Scouting. To achieve this recognition, Alexis worked with another Girl Scout to organize a conservation expo for the purpose of educating young girls about careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.
