Alexandria police have arrested a 23-year-old city resident and charged him with abduction for attempting to restrain a teenager at the AMC Hoffmann Theater in Eisenhower Valley.
Mario Ortiz Suarez is being held at the Alexandria jail on a $10,000 bond. Police said that a 15-year-old Fairfax County girl stepped outside one of the theaters to make a phone call at around 10 p.m. last Friday night. When she was returning to the movie, Suarez grabbed her and tried to restrain her, police said. She resisted and was able to break away and go for help.
Police located Suarez, a member of the cleaning crew at the theater, in a nearby hallway. “There were four detectives working a detail at the theaters that night so the suspect was quickly taken into custody,” said Amy Bertsch, a spokesperson for the police department. “The girl had some scratches on her face but didn’t need medical treatment.”
