Week in Herndon

Four Charged with Selling to Minors

Annually, the Herndon Police makes contact with ABC establishments to remind them of their obligation to ensure underage citizens are not purchasing alcohol. Every business with an ABC license was contacted in July by mail and reminded to check identification of patrons to help prevent the purchase of alcohol by underage buyers. Each business was advised that the police department would be conducting enforcement activities that focus on illegal sales to underage buyers.

Tuesday, Aug. 17, the Herndon Police conducted an ABC compliance check at 61 businesses in the town. Fifty-seven of the businesses asked for proof of identification and denied the sale of alcohol. Four establishments were found in violation. The following individuals were charged with selling alcoholic beverages to persons less than 21: Thonghai Hansupichon, 28, of Silver Spring, Md., working at the Khun Ya Thai Restaurant, at 328 Elden St.; Allison Rhea Riggs, 21, of Potomac Falls, working at CarPool Restaurant, 208 Elden St.; Elsy Xiomara Barraza-Lopez, 28, of Centreville, working at Casa Maria Café, at 408 Elden St.; and Hyun Kim Sung, 20, of Centreville, working at Yee Hwa Korean Restaurant, at 645 Elden St.

Letters are also being sent to those establishments that denied the sale to thank them for their continued assistance in preventing the sale of alcohol to underage patrons.
