Alexandria Police Investigate Abduction/Impersonating Federal Officers Case

Suspects impersonate federal officers and abduct man.

Two men have been arrested and a third man is in the hospital in a bizarre case that began late Tuesday night.

Alexandria police were called to a home on Argyle Drive at around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 7. A woman told officers that three armed men who were posing as federal officers came to her home and abducted her husband.

A short time later, police began receiving calls from residents in the 200 block of Yoakum Parkway. These callers told police that they heard suspicious activity in the woods near their homes.

When police responded to this area, they found the 55-year-old man who was reported abducted from Argyle Drive and one male suspect, a 75-year-old man. Nearby, police found a shovel and a recently dug hole in the ground. They are still investigating to see if this is related to the abduction.

David M. Klutz, 37, of the 200 block of Yoakum Parkway, in Alexandria, and Aubrey H. Berryman, 25, of 5600 block of Bristol Court in Fairfax County, have both been charged with “Abduction and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.” A third suspect, the 75-year-old Alexandria man, is in police custody at a local hospital but has not yet been formally charged.

The victim, stunned with a taser gun, was examined by paramedics and released. The 75-year-old suspect complained of chest pains at the scene and was taken to Inova Alexandria Hospital.

Police at the scene do not believe this was a random crime. Police said they were looking into a related civil lawsuit but provided no other details. They are continuing to investigate.
