Alexandria Police Vet Named Fredericksburg Police Chief

The city of Fredericksburg announced on Wednesday that Capt. David Nye, a 24-year veteran of the Alexandria Police Department, has been selected as their new chief of police.

During his career here, Nye commanded four major divisions: midnight patrol, criminal investigation, planning and automated systems and support services. He lives in Stafford.

“David is articulate and energetic,” said Fredericksburg city manager Phillip L. Rodenberg. “He will lead the department to new levels of professionalism while maintaining the high level of safety that our city’s police department is known for providing the citizens.”

The Fredericksburg Police Department has 91 employees, including 64 sworn officers.

“Capt. Nye will be missed,” said Amy Bertsch, a spokesperson for the Alexandria Police Department. “He has been a mentor to many of our officers and has served the city well in a number of capacities while a member of the department. Fredericksburg is getting an excellent police chief.”
