Several businesses in the Elden Street Marketplace, in the 1200 block of Elden Street, had to be evacuated Thursday, Jan. 29, due to a small electrical fire that broke out too close to a gas line.
Sgt. Jerry Keys of the Herndon Police Department said the stores, from the Baskin Robbins ice cream shop to the ABC liquor store, were evacuated as a precaution and that the entire incident was under control within minutes.
"It was a very small fire concerning the electrical box outside of the store," said Dan Schmidt, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department director of public information.
Keys said the fire was located at the dry cleaning business. There were no injuries.
