Basket Bingo Brings Big Bucks

Mount Vernon High School Assistant Principal Nardos King was all smiles last Sunday. The Basket Bingo fund-raiser that she had coordinated was going well. She said that they had sold at least 200 tickets.

"We're hoping to make a couple of thousand dollars for the Class of 2006," said King, who had set up the event with the help of Melissa Wangsgard, Longaberger rep from West Springfield.

"We purchased the Longaberger baskets at cost and then she filled some of them with items," said King.

Some of the special baskets that the players could win were the Easter basket; Proudly American; and the Household Caddy Basket & Seedling Basket. Raffle tickets could be purchased for the Work-A-Round Basket; Craft Keeper; and House Keeper. There were almost 20 other baskets that could be won. Bingo players had a chance to try their hand at regular, double, postage, letter "X" and letter "L" bingo games.

Players seemed to enjoy themselves, playing one or multiple cards per game. Students were there in force, helping to sell snacks and bingo cards, and post the bingo numbers.
