The neighborhood of Wessynton, just off Route 235 and only a stone's throw away from the Mount Vernon Estate, celebrated the Fourth of July with an Independence Day Parade. The parade wound through the neighborhood to the community pool just in time for the first big downpour, where there was a patriotic dessert contest and a watermelon relay in the pool. There was also a barbecue lunch while the rain continued to pour down on the celebrants.
