Phase I Nearing Completion

Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Depart Station 30 is nearing the end of Phase I of its planned two-phase renovation, said Eugene Roesser, spokesperson for the department. "That part of the project should be completed by the end of August," Roesser said.

This phase, which Roesser estimates will cost the department between $400,000-500,000 is expanding the facilities which house the station's equipment.

"Phase II we hope to start shortly after Phase I," Roesser said. The second phase will include new living quarters, replacing the current facilities which are outdated.

Additionally, it will provide separate living facilities for men and women, something that was not a consideration when the station was first built. "We need to upgrade those facilities," Roesser said.

The second phase is estimated to cost approximately $700,000. The department currently owns the land, buildings and virtually all of the equipment in them, and wants to keep it that way.

For that reason, the station hopes to avoid asking the county for any funding, which would then allow the county more control over the buildings.

Residents which would like to make a contribution to the new construction, or the department in general should call 301-365-2028.
