The Alexandria Gay and Lesbian Community Association will host a lesbian, gay bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community social in Old Town Alexandria Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Stardust Restaurant, 608 Montgomery St., Alexandria. Open to all, including non-Alexandria residents.

The next meeting of the Mount Vernon Genealogical Society will feature Don Bloomfield's presentation entitled "An Introduction to Heraldry for Genealogists." Bloomfield's presentation will introduce the basics of heraldry, its customs and terminology, clear up a few common misconceptions on the subject and point out some ways in which an understanding of heraldry can provide clues to family connections which might otherwise go unnoticed. The meeting is free and open to the public. It will be held Tuesday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m., in the Hollin Hall Senior Center, 1500 Shenandoah Road, Room 112, Alexandria. MOMS Club of Alexandria, Northeast. Moms Offering Moms Support is a group for mothers who stay at home with their children (ages birth through pre-school) full- or part-time.
