Art exhibit. The Broadway Gallery hosts the opening reception of Ken Strong and his collection of recent works from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The exhibition continues through Saturday, July 3. Big Band Concert. The Lanier Middle School Jazz Ensemble and the Fairfax High School Jazz Band will participate in the third annual "Big Band Extravaganza." Joining these two groups is Swing Shift, Washington area's premiere Big Band. The event begins at 7 p.m., in the Fairfax High School cafeteria, 3500 Old Lee Highway. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and free for children ages 5 and under. Tickets are available at the door. All proceeds benefit the Fairfax High School Bands. "Snow White," "Hansel & Gretel" and "Slavic Symphony," will be performed by the Ballet Arts Ensemble of Fairfax, along with a selection of jazz, tap, and modern dance works performed by Ensemble dancers and students from the Center for Ballet Arts. This annual event celebrates the accomplishments of plumbing and HVAC apprentices who have completed a four-year course of study through Fairfax County Public Schools and their employers. Items available for purchase include furniture, lamps, vintage clothing, clocks, posters and books. Proceeds support the preservation and educational activities of the society in the metropolitan D.C. area. Attendees can join the ADSW and receive the member's admission rate of $8.
