Vehicle Causes Home Blaze

Four adults and a teenager were driven from their home at 6234 Bren Mar Drive on Thursday, June 24, at approximately 4:30 p.m., by a blaze that caused an estimated $150,000 damage, according Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department officials.

"The residents were home at that time and we received multiple calls. Not only did the family call 9-1-1 but neighbors as well," said Daniel L. Schmidt, departmental public information officer. Fire investigators have determined the fire was accidentally ignited by a vehicle being repaired in the home's carport.

First arriving units from the Penn Daw and Mount Vernon stations reported heavy fire visible from the rear of the house. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes.

The American Red Cross assisted with temporary housing for the family, fire officials acknowledged. There were no reported injuries.
