The Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) has announced the winners of the 2004 High School Arts Award, which recognizes four local graduating seniors for their hard work, enthusiasm and outstanding achievements in the fine arts. This years recipients from South Lakes High School are Chris Tate, who will attend Northern Virginia Community College and Aidan Rowley, who will attend Virginia Commonwealth University. The recipients from Herndon High School are Kathryne E. Wood, who will attend Salem College and Alex Huneke, who will attend Ringling School of Art and Design. The students each received a $500 award and a free membership to GRACE. All four students plan to continue their study of art as they enter college.

Brian P. Brett of Reston, a recent graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, was one of 33 high school graduates to receive the 2004 BP Community Scholarship. The award ceremony was held June 29 in the Mansfield Room at the U.S. Capitol.

Ashur Blaine Novick of Reston received his master of business administration May 17 from Wake Forest University's Babcock Graduate School of Management in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The League of Reston Artists (LRA) has announcedthe 2004 LRA Art Scholarship Award Winners from Herndon High School, Anne Marley, a graduating senior from Reston, was awarded a $250 scholarship to study photography at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. Alexander Huneke of Herndon was awarded a $250 scholarship to study fine art at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla. In addition to receiving their scholarships, Marley and Huneke will be invited to exhibit their work at the League of Reston Artists 11th Annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibition, June 7-July 6 at the Jo Ann Rose Gallery of the Reston Community Center at Lake Anne Plaza. The League of Reston Artists Annual Art Scholarship program is designed to acknowledge senior students from Herndon High School and South Lakes High School who plan on pursuing further studies in the arts.
