FIREFIGHTER ARRESTED FOR FRAUD

Lieutenant Verlon Williamson, 48, of 7615 Fallswood Way in the Lorton area, was charged with one count of obtaining money by false pretense. He was released on a $2,500 personal recognizance bond. The arrest was made after police detectives received information in early March that an employee of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department claimed hours that he had not actually worked. An investigation into time and attendance fraud led to the arrest of Williamson, who was charged after he met with detectives on April 28.

NO SUSPECT IN ROUTE 1 BURGLARY

No suspect has been found for the burglary that took place on Tuesday, March 2, at the Joy of Sports Foundation on Richmond Highway.

According to Detective Abbas Tabatabale (Tabby), approximately $5,700 worth of computer equipment was stolen from the non-profit organization.

Rick Bates, president of the organization, said, "They knew exactly what they were looking for. They took computers, copiers and printers. Maybe they had come in before to scout it out. It really messed up our network and we lost a lot of work time. We want to let the community know that it happened."

Tabby said that over the last four years, there have been a series of commercial burglaries on the east side of Richmond Highway between Woodlawn Stables and Thieves Market, including a hairdresser, Realtor and Holly, Woods and Vines nursery. Tabby said he's not sure if the burglaries are all related, but added, "We've been working aggressively [to solve the cases]."

He recommends installing an alarm system, saying, "It's a nice area, but anything can happen."
