Two-Car Crash In Virginia Run

Two people were injured and another was charged with a traffic infraction following a two-car crash Friday evening in Virginia Run. Police say the person allegedly at fault was a teen-age girl from Herndon.

According to Fairfax County police spokesman Bud Walker, a 2001 Honda driven by Amy Prevatte, 17, of Herndon, was traveling south on Pleasant Valley Road in Centreville, around 5:45 p.m., when the accident occurred.

Police say Prevatte moved over from the left lane to the right, just before Smithfield Place, allegedly cutting in front of a 2000 Ford SUV already in the right lane. As she did, say police, she reportedly hit the front driver's side of the SUV with back of her vehicle.

"The SUV then ran off the roadway to the right, crossing Smithfield Place and striking a tree and a fence," said Walker. "The driver of the Honda, [Prevatte], was charged with improper lane change."

The driver of the SUV, Dustin Gray, 19, of Manassas Park, was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Also injured, but not transported to the hospital, was Kenneth Cornwell, 18, a passenger in the SUV.
