Escapee Back Behind City Jail Bars

Rajee L. Wyatt, 27, is back in police custody after walking away from an interview room in the criminal Investigation Division of the Alexandria Police Department.

Wyatt was being questioned by detectives in connection with a series of commercial robberies that occurred last fall in Alexandria. According to police, Wyatt was left unattended and simply walked out of the building.

“We were very quickly able to determine which door he used and in which direction he went,” said Amy Bertsch, a spokesperson for the department. “Construction workers at the Patent and Trademark Office assisted us as did marshals at the federal courthouse.”

Wyatt went to the Eisenhower Metro station and got on a train for D.C. “He approached Metro staff and asked for a pass to get on the train because he told them he had just gotten out of jail” Bertsch said. Metro staff gave Wyatt a pass.

The Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Wyatt in Washington about eight hours after his escape. He has been charged with escape and robbery.
