Police ID Burglary, Vandalism Suspects

Last Wednesday, detectives with the Arlington County Police Department’s Burglary and Auto Crimes units announced that they had identified two 13-year-old boys responsible for a burglary at St. Thomas More elementary school and a series of vandalism incidents along Arlington Boulevard earlier this month. The boys, who are not being identified due to their age, will face a number of charges relating to the incidents.

In the early hours of May 2, police said, the two boys broke into the St. Thomas More Elementary School, in the 3900 block of North Cathedral Lane, and spray-painted obscene and religiously offensive language in the building. They also spray-painted at least 15 vehicles and structures between the 4400 and 5800 blocks of Arlington Boulevard with obscene and religiously and racially offensive language and symbols.

Detectives said there was no hate or bias motivation behind these crimes.

Resident Satisfaction Survey

To Be Mailed in June

Over the summer, Arlington County government will conduct its first widespread survey of Arlington residents. The county will mail 3,000 surveys in early to mid-June to randomly selected residents.

The Arlington Counts survey is designed to measure residents’ satisfaction with County services and to gather input about issues facing the community. The statistically valid survey is conducted by the ETC Institute, a professional market research firm based in the Olathe, Kansas, and will include questions on issues including public safety, parks and recreation, maintenance, administrative services, etc.

The 2004 surveys will be mailed in early-mid June. Residents who receive the surveys are asked to complete and return them promptly. ETC staff also will make follow-up calls to ensure a statistically valid sample size.

Survey results will be available on the County’s Web site in late July or early August. For additional information or questions regarding the survey, please contact Michelle Ferguson, at 703-228-3120.
