The Alexandria Police Department confirmed that they are investigating a threat against Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille. “We received information from a third party on Sunday that led us to believe that there was a threat against Mayor Euille,” said Amy Bertsch, a spokesperson for the department. “It was not a specific threat but we have assigned police officers to provide security at the mayor’s home and when he is at public functions. The investigation is ongoing and we are evaluating the situation every day.”
There is a marked police cruiser in front of the mayor’s home, which neighbors have observed. “The police are doing an excellent job investigating this matter and I hope that it will be resolved very soon,” Euille said. “I appreciate everyone’s concern.”
Neither the police nor the mayor would comment further on the exact nature of the threat.
