Former BI Vice Principal Dies

Longtime Alexandria educator dies after extended illness.

For the past 25 years, Marguerite Scafati worked in Alexandria’s Catholic schools. From 1979 to 1987, she was a guidance counselor at St. Mary’s Academy on Russell Road and then was principal of that school from 1987 until 1990. In 1990, she joined the staff of Bishop Ireton High School as the vice principal for academics. Last summer, Scafati left her post at B.I. because of cancer. She died on Nov. 1, at her home.

“She was a really wonderful lady who touched so many lives,” said Eugene Toni, whose children attended B.I. “She will be missed.”

A funeral mass was held for Scafati last week. She will be interred at Fort Myer Chapel on Monday, Nov. 22, at 8:45 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lombardi Cancer Center, The Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research, 3800 Reservoir Road NW Washington, DC 20007.
