Due to a variety of demands throughout the summer, the need for blood has reached a critical level, according to Inova Blood Donor Services which supplies blood to 15 area hospitals.
During October the following Inova Blood Donor centers in Alexandria and Southeast Fairfax County will be conducting community blood drives at the following locations:
* Oct. 12 - 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Sherwood Hall Regional Library, 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane, Alexandria.
* Oct. 19 - 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Charles E. Beatley, Jr., Regional Library, Meeting Room, 50905 Duke St., Alexandria.
* Oct. 20 - 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. - Jungle's Gym, 5825 Barclay Drive, Alexandria. For appointment call 703-922-2022.
* Oct. 25 - 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Kingstowne Community Library, 6500 Landsdown Center, Alexandria.
"For safety's sake, children are not permitted in the bloodmobile," according to Barbara A. Durkin, donor liaison, Inova Blood Donor Services. A normal appointment takes about one hour.
