Sixty Arlington County companies — about one-third of all employers honored in the region — have been named among the 2004 'Best Workplaces for Commuters.'

The designation was given to 187 Greater Washington Region employers who offer their employees outstanding traffic-reducing commuter benefits such as employer-provided transit passes, vanpool subsidies, bike commuter facilities, onsite daycare and telework programs. The companies were recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its Greater Washington region coalition partners at a ceremony in Silver Spring, Md.

ERG of Arlington, a consulting firm, recently received an award from the Chesapeake Bay Program's Businesses for the Bay. The award recognized ERG for, "Outstanding Achievement for Pollution Prevention, Small Facility." More than 590 companies and municipalities in the Chesapeake Bay watershed belong to Businesses for the Bay, and seven Virginia companies were honored in this year's awards.

A new poster by artist Peter Max to benefit the Pentagon Memorial Fund will now be sold at the Fort America shop in the Pentagon. The poster, which depicts the Statue of Liberty with the Pentagon in the background, was previously only sold online. The Fort America store is located in the Pentagon's main concourse, with a kiosk store in the Pentagon Welcome Center. Autographed posters are $150, while poster overpaints are $8,000. The poster can also be ordered online at www.pentagonmemorial.net/attposter.
