Fibromyalgia/Arthritis support group meets the second Thursday of the month at 1 p.m., at Sherwood Library. Life Line Screening is providing health screenings on Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Providence Presbyterian Church, 9019 Little River Turnpike in Fairfax. Appointments begin at 10 a.m. Screenings involve the use of ultrasound technology, and scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which can lead to a stroke, aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta, and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which are a strong predictor of heart disease. Also offered for men and women, is a bone density screening to assess their risk for osteoporosis. Each screening requires ten minutes or less to complete. A complete vascular screening package, including the Stroke/Carotid Artery, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm and Ankle Brachial Index (hardening of the arteries) screenings is $99. Birth Mother’s Support Group. Meets weekly in Northern Virginia. It is for any woman who has ever placed a child in adoption and would like to meet with others who have done the same. A modest fee is charged based on income.
