Camps & Schools Notes

Ryan T. Newmeyer, son of Navy Cmdr. Kevin P. Newmeyer of Springfield, recently participated in the Naval Academy’s week-long summer seminar program in Annapolis, Md. This seminar was designed for upcoming students to get a feel for the challenges and benefits to a Navel Academy education.

The following students of the Springfield area have been inducted into the 2003-04 National Honor Roll:

Robert A Bethea, Lauren Brown, Michael J Campbell, Sarah French, Ann Fu, Bernadette N Gaston, Sharon Gonzales, Suraya Hassani, Silvia T Henriquez, Claire E Howard, Katherine Ibarra, Ashley Jackson, Josh Koch, Callyn A Lepine, Sara Ann Lu, Van-anh T Nguyen, Muhammad Siddiki, Oshila Sulaiman, Andrea Terrazas and Jiang Ling Wang. The National Honor Roll recognizes high achieving high school and middle school students.

Melissa Shue and Ashley Kang, students at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, were recently selected to attend Virginia Tech’s Governor’s School for Agriculture this summer. Students will receive instruction from the university’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Natural Resources, College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, and the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.

Brian Platt, son of Gary and Michele Platt of Springfield, graduated from Randolph-Macon Academy on May 29, 2004. This fall, Brian will attend George Mason University, where he will be awarded a three-year Army ROTC scholarship, valued at $20,000 per year. He had also been accepted to the University of Tampa on a four-year Army ROTC scholarship valued at $25,000 per year.
