The College of Engineering at Oregon State University honored 31 of its alumni during its seventh annual Oregon Stater Awards, which celebrates a wide range of engineers and their contributions to society. Among the honorees were Thomas E. McKinney of Ashburn, who was named to the academy of Distinguished Engineers.

Loudoun Volunteer Services (LVS) has selected Jessica Walker, resident of Purcellville and student at Foxcroft School, as Student Volunteer of the Month.

Walker serves as youth chair on the Loudoun County Advisory Commission on Youth where, commission chair Carol Kost, says she takes a leadership role in motivating fellow students to fulfill tasks necessary to conduct business of the commission.

Loudoun Volunteer Services gives special recognition to students who give their time to the community in an extraordinary way. Sully Elementary, 300 Circle Drive, Sterling, will be holding a family bingo night Friday, April 15. Doors open at 6 p.m., with bingo starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be prizes for children and adults. Pizzas and sodas sold for nominal charge. Raffle tickets will be sold to benefit the school's playground fund. Raffle prize is a basketball hoop worth more than $300, with the drawing will be at the end of the month.

The Lucketts Elementary School PTA is sponsoring a spring fling basket bingo, Friday, April 15, at the Lucketts Volunteer Fire Department. Featuring Longaberger baskets filled with goodies, the evening will also offer four special bingo games, basket raffles, and a fishbowl raffle for numerous items donated by local friends and businesses. All proceeds will benefit Lucketts Elementary School. Doors open at 6 p.m. with bingo starting at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be available. Admission is $20 per person and entitles the participant to 24 regular bingo games and eligibility for door prizes. Additional ticket books can be purchased at the door for $5.

This package includes Friday night accommodations and breakfast in the Riverside Hearth. Potomac Falls High School Parent Teacher Student Organization and the students of Potomac Falls High School present "There Is No Turning Back - Teen To Teen," a drama production that focuses on the impact of mixing drugs, alcohol, and driving on the lives of teens, their friends, and families. Teens and parents are invited to a special community performance Tuesday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m., at Potomac Falls High School auditorium, 46400 Algonkian Parkway, Potomac Falls.

River Bend Middle School presents its third annual musical production, "Hello, Dolly!" Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 29; Saturday, April 30; and Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 7. An afternoon matinee is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1.

Ticket order forms are available at the River Bend main office. The cost is $5 each, and seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Ed Garand of Burke was the winner of Stone Bridge High SchoolÕs Project GraduationÕs Car or Cash Sweepstakes April 1. Garand had celebrated his 49th birthday the day before his name was drawn. He chose the $10,000 cash. He plans to use it to repay a home equity loan and perhaps do some additional home remodeling. This is the third year for Project GraduationÕs Car or Cash Sweepstakes. All 600 tickets were sold by March 31, with all proceeds funding the school's all- night, alcohol-free, drug-free, tobacco-free party for graduating seniors on June 17.
