Arts Scholarships Available

The Council for the Arts of Herndon has made grants available to local art groups and is now accepting scholarship applications from students wishing to pursue studies in the Arts.

To qualify for the scholarships, students must be between the ages of 13 and 21, and either reside in or attend school in Herndon.

The scholarships will be awarded based on merits of the program or curriculum, demonstrated ability and sincere interest in the arts by virtue of his/her recent activities and teacher/instructor recommendation.

Applications are available at the office of the Council for the Arts of Herndon located in the old Town Hall building at 730 Elden St. in Herndon.

The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, April 29.

Awards will be announced on May 20 and presented at the Town Council meeting on May 24.

THE COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS of Herndon is also announces that it has awarded two grants to area arts groups.

Grants were awarded to the Herndon Towne Square Singers to assist with its upcoming production of "USO on Tour" as well as to the Herndon High School Theatre Arts Department to assist with its spring production of "Les Miserables."

The Herndon Towne Square Signers' concert will feature music from the 1940s and 1950s up to the entertainment now performed by the USO to American servicemen.

Council for the Arts president Grace Wolf presented a check to Jean Goldsby, director of the Towne Square Singers, at a recent rehearsal.
