<lst>Riverbend Park , is launching a new program featuring the work of local artists whose art relates to the park in Great Falls. The first exhibit, Seasons on the Potomac, presents the art of impressionist Jack Warden of Reston. Forty oil paintings will be on display and for sale in the park's Visitor Center, 8700 Jeffrey Rd., Great Falls, September through November 2005. Riverbend Park will be host an opening recepton for the artist Sunday, Sept. 18, 2-4 p.m. at the Visitor Center. Art Classes. The Great Falls Art Center provides weekly classes in drawing, oil painting, pottery, sculpture and art history for children over 6, teenagers, adults and seniors at its Walker Road studio in Great Falls. A View Through: Sculpture by Tess Cummins. Exhibit runs Sept. 15-Nov. 5 in the Emerson Gallery at the McLean Project for the Arts. Reception and Gallery Talk is Thursday, Sept. 15 from 7-9 p.m. Richmond artist Tess Cummins creates sculpture using unusual and idiosyncratic materials, including weathered copper roofing sheet, gemstones, wrapped copper wire and handmade hinges and chain. Her designs incorporate both contemporary sculpture and drawing and to the metalsmithing processes used in ancient jewelry design. Paintings of Paula Crawford. Exhibit runs Sept. 15-Nov. 5 in the Emerson Gallery at the McLean Project for the Arts. Reception and Gallery Talk is Thursday, Sept. 15 from 7-9 p.m. The artist's abstractions are rooted in the process and materials of painting. Using a grid structure to ground each piece, Crawford also introduces an enigmatic and energetic depiction of space, which alternately recedes, comes forward or lies flat on the picture plane. Reception and Gallery Talk is Thursday, Sept. 15 from 7-9 p.m. Exploring both the wonder and the brutality of nature is a central concern for Maryland artist Beverly Ress. Her drawings depict fragments from the natural world rendered with great care in order to highlight the inherent and inevitable cycles of life and death. Seeds: Gail Gorlitzz and Karin Birch. Exhibition runs from Dec. 6-Jan. 14 in the Emerson Gallery at the McLean Project for the Arts. The common ground between Gail Gorlitzz's sculptures and Karin Birch's two-dimensional works lies in a shared organic and additive approach to fashioning artwork. Both artists build from small components, be they beads, stitches or brushstrokes, compiling hundreds of small parts, pieces or gestures into works both complex and harmonious.
