<cal1>Emergency Preparedness

<cal2>The American Red Cross of the National Capital Area's Fairfax/Falls Church Office and the Fairfax County Citizen Corps Council sponsors monthly Emergency Preparedness Clinics. Participants will learn how to make a kit to help through the first 72 hours of a local or regional emergency; help prepare a list for what should be on hand for disasters; prepare a communication plan for the family; learn about the different kinds of emergencies and how to prepare for them; first-aid skills and more. <cal1>Girls Groups

<cal2>Girls Discussion. The town of Vienna sponsors a girls group for area Vienna girls in grades 9-12. Meetings take place monthly at the Vienna Community Center. Girls can discuss issues such as dating, college, health and beauty, and go on group-sponsored trips. For more information, call Brandy Mullen at 703-255-5721. <cal1>Dancing

<cal2>Social Dances. (ballroom, Latin, swing, night club, country western/polka) in Cy Richardson's group classes on Tuesday nights at the Oaks Community Center, 5708 Oak Leather Drive, Burke. Cost is $56 per person for the eight-week session, with free make up class. For more, call 703-250-5360.

Tap-dance lessons for Fairfax County Senior Citizens 55 and older will be held at Little River Glen Senior Center, Barker Court, located just off Route 236 and Olley Lane in Fairfax, on Wednesdays. Free. Call 703-370-1466.

Casino de Rueda classes (a group/team form of Salsa) is being offered on Saturdays at the PSDC Room, 146 Maple Ave., E., Vienna. Beginners classes are offered at 11:30 a.m. and intermediate classes at 12:30 p.m. The classes are run by Barb Bernstein who has extensive teaching experience (studios, nightclubs, athletic facilities, etc.) and has produced many Latin dance shows. <cal1>Seniors

<cal2>Driver Safety. The AARP offers a driver safety program for motorists ages 50 and older. The course covers the effects of aging and medications on driving, basic driving rules, license renewal, local traffic hazards, adverse road conditions and accident prevention measures. Graduates of this course could receive a discount on their car insurance. Cost for both classes is $10 per person, and advance registration is required. For more information, call 703-255-6360.

Exercise for Seniors. “Heart and Sole,” an exercise program that can be done either sitting or standing, takes place on Fridays from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Vienna Community Center. The fee for town residents is $36. For more information, call 703-255-6360.

<cal1>Parenting/Child Care

<cal2>Systematic Training for Effective Parenting of Teens (STEP/Teen) is a discussion group for parents and others who want to learn more effective ways to communicate with teen-agers. The workshop meets on Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and Thursdays, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per week. <cal2>Learn English. The ESL and Immigrant Ministries provides English classes in 17 locations in Northern Virginia, including Vienna. Both day and evening classes are offered. <cal2>"Writing Your Personal History," an informal, group-run class will be available to anyone interested in documenting their life stories for themselves or future generations to enjoy. Classes meet each Thursday, Sept. 8-March 30, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St. S.E.
