Radford University alumni in the Northern Virginia/D.C. area are invited to RU Day at Camden Yards Saturday, Sept. 24 when the Baltimore Orioles play against the Boston Red Sox. A pregame social will begin at 3 p.m. in the banquet room on the sixth floor, and game time is 4:30 p.m. Drawings will be held, including giveaways of Radford apparel and gifts. Pregame festivities include a meal of barbecued ribs, chicken breasts, hot dogs, corn on the cob, salads, fruit desserts and drinks. A game ticket and admission to the meal is $47. Levine School of Music's Virginia campus will host a fun-filled morning on Saturday, Sept. 10 that will include an instrument petting zoo, Early Childhood Music demonstrations, student performances and refreshments. Registration for fall classes will be available. 10 a.m.-noon at Westover Baptist Church, 1125 N. Patrick Henry Drive, Arlington. The Arlington League of Women Voters is collecting school supplies for needy children at Barrett and Randolph Elementary Schools. Collection boxes are at the seven libraries in Arlington, the lobby of Courthouse Plaza and at the Virginia Commerce Bank branches on Wilson and Williamsburg Blvd. Supplies will be collected until September 11.

The Yorktown High School crew team is conducting a series of car washes this summer and next fall. The crew team holds several fund-raisers per year to purchase equipment and pay for coaches. The goal of the car washes is to replace some 10-year-old erg machines. Preston's Care Pharmacy, a local, family owned pharmacy, is letting the team use its parking lot and water. Preston's is located at Lee Highway and N. Dickerson Street, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on the following Saturdays: Sept. 10, Sept. 24, Oct. 1 and Oct. 16.

Emily Milliken received the Academic Achievement Award in U.S. History at the conclusion of Randolph-Macon Academy's summer program. Milliken is the daughter of Mark and Teresa Milliken of Arlington. During the same awards ceremony, Mark Baumgardner received the Residential Life Citizenship Award. Baumgardner is the son of Hugh and Molly Baumgardner of Arlington.

Lawrence E. Hinkle of Arlington is among 516 students who are starting at Bates College this fall. Hinkle, a 2005 graduate of the Peddie School, is the son of Lawrence and Margaret Hinkle of Arlington.
