Students from area high schools received honors recently for the Scholastic Art Awards, a national competition to honor students in grades 7-12 for their artistic accomplishments. The Alliance for Young Writers and Artists sponsors the competition, which offers prizes at three levels — Gold Key, Silver Key, and Certificate of Merit. Students with Gold and Silver Keys in Fairfax County have their artwork on display at the gallery at the Ernst Community Cultural Center at Northern Virginia Community College's main campus in Annandale through March 1. Students with Gold Key awards move on to the national level for judging, with the National winners to be displayed at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. in June and July.
