About five parents began organizing a protest at Lake Anne Elementary School last week over the treatment of two teachers but canceled it to pursue the grievance through the school system.
The protest — planned for Friday, June 24, the last day of school — was canceled Wednesday, June 22, according to a parent who had planned to protest.
“It’s a series of smaller things that have been building up, and we want the county to come in and take a look at things,” said Chris Keefer, mother of two students at Lake Anne, talking about why she had been involved in planning the protest.
“We decided we’re going to exercise the channels through Fairfax County,” said Keefer. “We’re meeting with members of the office of Cluster 8.”
Paul Regnier, spokesman for Fairfax County Public Schools, did not comment, saying that personnel issues were involved.
According to Keefer, a meeting between Cluster 8 school officials and Lake Anne parents is planned for Tuesday.
However, the parents have continued to work to broadcast their views to county officials. “We started a letter-writing campaign to Fairfax County to let them know that we love our teachers and we want to keep them here,” said Keefer.
