Signal Hill Parking Hearing Postponed

Supervisor Sharon Bulova (D-Braddock) has delayed the public hearing before the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors regarding establishing a community parking district in the Signal Hill community.

In its place, Bulova has invited members from the Signal Hill Community Association, as well as several community members who oppose the restriction, to meet at a forum Thursday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m., at the Braddock District office on Burke Lake Road.

"It's an opportunity for leadership from the community and the task force that's been circulating petitions to establish the parking restrictions, to sit down with the leadership among the folks who are objecting to the parking restrictions," said Bulova.

"It's not a huge forum. It's mainly a smaller opportunity for leaders of the two groups to sit down together and see if we can't work through the issues that they're raising."

A representative from the county Department of Transportation, as well as a Fairfax County police officer and a county attorney, will also be on hand to help with clarification. Bulova said the meeting is not meant to be a public hearing with an open floor for comments. She has invited approximately 10 parties to the meeting, which is in advance of the May 23 public hearing before the Board of Supervisors.

"This is meant to empower a neighborhood, and if something is going to be implemented, there needs to be a clear majority," said Bulova.
