St. Patrick's Day Festival. Saturday, March 12, from noon-9 p.m. in the area of Wilson Boulevard and Quincy Street, by Ballston Common Mall in Arlington. This is a massive festival on six city blocks, including indoor and outdoor activities: a multitude of beer trucks, plus food, beverage and awareness booths; six indoor bars and restaurants; three outdoor stages; 15 popular bands playing rock, Irish, blues, retro and folk; a carnival midway with games, rides and activities; an expanded Kids' Zone (Kids' activities end at 5 p.m.); and more.

“Women in Leadership: Your Success Portfolio," the annual leadership conference of The Women's Center. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Sheraton Premiere hotel in Tysons Corner. The World Children's Choir 15th Anniversary Performance. Pachysandra Removal at Potomac Overlook Regional Park. The Northern Virginia Conservation Trust (NVCT) will be teaming up with the staff at Potomac Overlook Regional Park from 9 a.m.-noon to remove a large patch of pachysandra. This non-native groundcover is often recommended as an alternative to English ivy because it grows slower and does not climb, but it is still an invasive species. Unchecked, it can cover extensive areas and crowd out many native species. Bring work gloves and dress appropriately for the weather. NVCT will provide hot coffee and pastries. A $10 donation is highly appreciated. Meet at 9 a.m. in the main parking lot of Potomac Overlook, near the comfort station. The park is located at 2845 N. Marcey Road. <cal2>Trout Fishing Season opens in Arlington. At 9 a.m. Rainbow trout will be stocked in Four Mile Run Stream from Bon Air Park south to Barcroft Park. After opening day, fishing is allowed daily from sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Arlington's trout season lasts until all the fish are gone (approximately six weeks). Anglers over the age of 15 must have a Virginia State Fishing License. A Trout Stamp is not required to fish this section of Four Mile Run, however all other state fishing regulations apply. Clean and cook fish thoroughly before eating. Call the Arlington Park Ranger Office 703-525-0168.

"Kids Only" Fishing in Bon Air Park, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Age 15 and under. The section of Four Mile Run located in Bon Air Park north of Wilson Boulevard is reserved for children 15 and under, to give them the chance to fish without having to compete with adults. Parents can assist little ones, but solo adult fishing is not permitted. Parents who could use a little help in getting their kids started should report to the green-and-white tent located near the rose garden. The volunteers from Trout Unlimited can help string your line or bait your hook and learn about water quality and water resources.
