The county's Office of Transportation Services is poised to take a hard look at how Loudoun County collects and uses transportation proffers.
Contributions from developers given in exchange for higher-density projects has funded many of the roads in the county, especially in the quickly-growing Ashburn and Dulles south areas.
Roads like Ashburn Village Boulevard, Claiborne Parkway and Loudoun County Parkway were built using funds from developers who owned nearby subdivisions.
"Without transportation proffers, we would not have the transportation system we have today," said Art Smith, senior transportation planner with the county.
At the request of Supervisor Mick Staton (R-Sugarland Run), the Office of Transportation Services will examine the current system and determine how well it's working — if proffers are used in a timely manner, if they're going where they're supposed to go, if traffic study methodology is correct, etc.
The office will report back to the Board of Supervisors at a later date.
