Clifton Children's Academy hosts a registration Open House for school and summer camp for kindergarten and morning and afternoon preschool classes on Wednesday, March 30, and Wednesday, April 13, from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Parents and children may tour the school, located at 14315 Compton Road. Terra Centre Elementary School Kindergarten orientation / registration for the 2005-06 school year takes place Monday, May 9 at 1:30 p.m. Those with a child who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2005, and will be attending Terra Centre School should call the office at 703-249-1400 or stop in the school office to pick up a registration packet. Terra Centre is located at 6000 Burke Centre Parkway.

The following Hayfield teachers recently won Fort Belvoir Grants: Denise Stephanos for the “Student of the Month” program; Chaiki Rochkind for the “Japanese Cultural Festival;” Sharon Quick for the “Algebra SOL Cram Session” and Leslie Rodriguez for the “STAR Tutoring” program.

At the regional leadership conference for the Future Business Leaders of America, Hayfield Secondary's Nithya Jayakumar campaigned for and won the office of Vice President for the Northern Virginia region. Hayfield also had winners in Banking and Finance, Arthur Banian, second place; and Marketing, Michael Puterbaugh, third place.

Helen Chen, a senior from Lake Braddock Secondary School, was selected as a scholarship finalist from a field of more than 2,600 semifinalists by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation based on her academic excellence, school and community extracurricular activities. On April 14, Chen joins other finalists as they travel to Atlanta, the headquarters for The Coca-Cola Company, to compete for 50 four-year college scholarships of $20,000 and 200 four-year scholarships of $4,000.

Cadet Kevin Costello recently received a Student of Excellence Awards for Civics and Health at the Massanutten Military Academy. Kevin is the son of Raymond and Linda Costello of Fairfax Station. Student of Excellence Awards are given in each subject taught at Massanutten and represent the highest grade in that particular class as recommended by the teacher.

The Sentry from Robinson Secondary School was one of five Gold Crown award winners for middle school or junior high school yearbooks at the 81st annual Scholastic Convention at Columbia University recently.

The following Hayfield Secondary students were winners of individual Gold Circle awards at the 81st annual Scholastic Convention at Columbia University:

* Kathleen Grice and Sadia Latifi, “Trips Gone Wild: Non School Sponsored Trip Poses Risk,” The Orange Peal, certificate of merit in News Publications, In Depth News Feature, Feature Story.

* Tricia Sangalang, “The Orange Peal Front Page,” The Orange Peal, first place in News Publications, Page One Design, Broadsheet Black and White.

Alexander Collier Appleman of Fairfax Station achieved honor roll for the winter term at Mercersburg Academy. Alexander, a 10th grader, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Appleman of Fairfax Station.
