"Selling Technology in the Federal Government," presented by The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), is an educational program for information technology resellers, distributors and equipment and service vendors. Northern Virginia companies can now apply for the 2005 CARE (Companies As Responsive Employers) Awards administered by Northern Virginia Family Service. Applications are available online and must be submitted by June 10.

The CARE Awards recognize businesses located, but not necessarily headquartered, in Northern Virginia that are leaders in promoting a positive work-life balance for employees through company policies and benefits. The program was developed by Northern Virginia Family Service and area business leaders, not only to give recognition to family-friendly companies, but also to encourage and challenge other companies to examine their policies and programs. Since 1992, the CARE Awards have identified the best places to work in Northern Virginia.

The IDI Group Companies of Arlington have announced the promotion of five IDI staff members to vice presidents. Virginia residents Carlos Cecchi of Alexandria, Enrico Cecchi of McLean, Patrick J. Rhodes Jr. of Middleburg and Bruce Rieder of Arlington, as well as Jolene Zangardi of Olney, Md., have all been named vice presidents.

Enrico C. Cecchi of McLean joined IDI in 1998 as assistant vice president and counsel. He collaborates with the chief financial officer in matters related to project financing, oversees contractual and in-house legal matters, serves as liaison with outside counsel and is responsible for various administrative corporate functions. Prior to joining IDI, he was an associate at the law firm of Hazel & Thomas, P.C., specializing in real estate and corporate law.

The Sixth Annual Women in Technology (WIT) Leadership Awards Banquet takes place on May 19 at the McLean Hilton, McLean. The WIT Annual Leadership Awards Banquet recognizes individuals for their outstanding accomplishments in the areas of mentoring, entrepreneurship and technology.

The WIT Leadership Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of women who are both members and non-members of WIT. Awards will be issued in six individual categories including Corporate Leadership, Entrepreneur Leadership, Government Leadership, Women in Technology Champion, Rising Star and Lifetime Achievement. ActiveMedia, a global full-service online marketing firm with offices in McLean and elsewhere, partnered with the Northern Virginia Technology Council and Italian web marketing and online advertising agency, Ad Maiora, to present Washington, D.C.-area businesses with the latest advances in search engine technology. The half-day seminar on Feb. 24 introduced local companies to new techniques for effectively capitalizing on the power of search engine optimization to enhance corporate business development strategies.

Arrowhead Global Solutions, based in McLean, was named by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce as one of the "Fantastic Fifty" fastest-growing companies in the state. Winning companies were saluted at an awards banquet at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly on April 28. Arrowhead was ranked 10th.
