Elephants Take Over Fort Hunt Park

Mount Vernon Republicans gather for weekend event.

David Kennedy said that last weekend’s Elephants in the Park picnic was the First Annual — it was so successful that he’s sure there will be another.

“It was more than we expected — over a hundred people,” Kennedy said.

While Kennedy has decided not to run again for the 44th District Seat, he is still actively involved in the Republican party and instrumental in putting together this gathering of Mount Vernon Republicans.

Helping out was Pauline Sammons, Jenny Kennedy, Shelagh Roberts, the McConvilles, the Austins, and the Mount Vernon Republican Women. Sean Connaughton spoke to the crowd about his run for Lt. Governor of Virginia. U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-11) also joined the festivities and spoke briefly.

Held at Fort Hunt Park, the event attracted young and old alike, with a moon bounce and games for the children. Families enjoyed a barbecue and put in their bid for raffle prizes, which were awarded by Doug Jones, chair of the Mount Vernon Republican Committee.
