<sh>Police Seek Woman's Attacker

<bt>Fairfax County police are looking for whoever assaulted a 49-year-old woman last week in Franklin Farm. Police say the woman, a Franklin Farm area resident, was exiting her car, Wednesday, Nov. 2, around 6:30 p.m., in the 3200 block of Willow Glen Drive when the incident occurred.

While retrieving her belongings from her car, she was approached by a masked man carrying an unknown object. Police say he struck her several times in the upper body; when she screamed, her assailant fled. She was taken to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital for treatment and then released.

The suspect is described as white, about 6 feet 1 inch and 185 pounds. He was dressed in all black clothing. Anyone with information about him or this incident is asked to call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or police at 703-691-2131.

<sh>Free Carseat Inspections

<bt>Certified technicians from the Sully District Police Station will perform free, child safety carseat inspections, this Thursday, Nov. 10, and next Thursday, Nov. 17, from 5-9 p.m. each day, at the station at 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly. They'll make sure the seats are correct for the child’s age and height, the child is securely placed in the seat and the seat is properly installed in the vehicle.

No appointment is necessary. But residents should install the child safety seats themselves, so the technicians may properly inspect and make adjustments, as necessary. Call the Sully District Child Seat Information line (703-814-7000, ext. 5140) to confirm dates and time. For additional child seat inspection times throughout Fairfax County, call the Fairfax County Operations Support Bureau at 703-280-0559.

<sh>Chantilly Community Coalition

<bt>The Chantilly Community Coalition for Safe and Drug-Free Youth will meet Monday, Nov. 14, at 4 p.m. in the conference room of the Chantilly Regional Library. Contact Carol Hoffman at 378-6155 or at chantillycoalition@cox.net. The December meeting will be Monday, Dec. 12 from 4-5 p.m.

The coalition is sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, and its purpose is to foster a safe community for children. It also promotes after-school programs and community-based programs for parents and youth in the local community.

All members of the Chantilly community are invited to attend the meetings. Anyone interested in helping put together community programs for parents of elementary- or secondary-school children should contact Hoffman.

<sh>Route 28/Braddock/Walney

<bt>The Virginia and Fairfax County Departments of Transportation and Supervisor Michael R. Frey (R-Sully) are holding a public meeting to discuss the Route 28/Braddock Road/Walney Road intersection. It's slated for Monday, Nov. 14, from 7-9 p.m. in the Sully District Governmental Center, 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly.

Modifications are being reviewed to this intersection to improve traffic flow through the corridor. Things being considered are the elimination of crossover movements and the restriction of some turning movements. After the presentation, those attending may ask questions and offer their concerns and suggestions.

<bt>WFCCA Land Use, Nov. 15

Office buildings and a shopping-center sign are on the agenda of the next meeting of the West Fairfax County Citizens Association (WFCCA) Land-Use Committee. The group will meet Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Sully District Governmental Center, 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly.

Attorney Fred Taylor will present a proposal to erect a comprehensive sign at the Marketplace at Centre Ridge Shopping Center. And Corporate Office Properties Trust (COPT) will tell WFCCA how it's reconfiguring its already-approved plans for buildings it will construct in the Westfields Corporate Center.

<sh>CAC Meeting Nov. 15

<bt>The Sully District Citizens' Advisory Committee (CAC) will meet Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m., in the Sully District Governmental Center at 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly. The main topic of discussion will be Underage Drinking and Youth At-risk Behavior. Residents served by the Sully District Police Station are welcome to attend.

<mh>Westfield Community Coalition

<bt>The Westfield Community Coalition will meet Tuesday, Nov. 22, at noon at the Sully District Governmental Center, 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly. Bring a brown bag lunch; beverages will be provided. Contact Nancy Bennett at 703-266-2370 or at Bennett15428@aol.com.

The coalition is a volunteer group of adults who hope to increase community awareness of drug and alcohol use among local teens. It also plans prevention-education programs for the year, under the guidance of the Safe and Drug Free Youth section of Fairfax County Public Schools.

<sh>WFCM Needs Donations to Help Local Needy Families

<bt>Each month, Western Fairfax Christian Ministries (WFCM) provides food, personal-hygiene and cleaning items to some 300, low-income, working families of all races and religions in western Fairfax County. Its food pantry and clothes closet are at 13981 Metrotech Drive in Chantilly, and it's in great need of donations from the community.

The 10 most-needed items are: Cooking oil (22-34-ounce bottles), flour, (2-5-pound sizes), complete pancake mixes and syrup, juices (preferaby concentrate), spaghetti sauce, feminine-hygiene products, deodorant and laundry detergent. Food and personal-product donations are accepted Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at WFCM's back door.

WFCM's thrift shop is open to the public, Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Clothing, household items, miscellaneous donations are accepted Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the back door. Call 703-988-9656 with questions or to volunteer, or see www.wfcmva.org.

<sh>Blood Donations are Sought

<bt>The Inova Blood Donor Center in the Centremed I Building on Route 29 in Centreville (across from the Centreville Multiplex Cinemas) is in urgent need of blood donations — especially O positive or negative, as well as A and B.
