Alexander Meyers of Robinson Secondary School and Rodney Perry of Westfield High School are 2006 National Merit Scholarships Program semifinalists, an academic competition for Black American high school students conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. They will compete with other students for more than 800 achievement Scholarship awards to be awarded next spring.
The Chantilly High School's choral group, Touch of Class, presents its annual Fall Cabaret on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and Thursday, Oct. 20. Dinner begins being served at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Reserved seats are $9 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets are available now through choral students or in the cafeteria beginning Monday, Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will also be order forms available in the main office beginning Monday, Oct. 17. The Brookfield Elementary School Fall Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for fun, games and refreshments. There will be inflatable basketball hoops, face painting, a cake walk and karaoke. The Chantilly High School Athletics Boosters Club will host The 15th Annual Chantilly Holiday Shops Saturday, Oct. 29, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Chantilly High School gym. A major fund-raiser for the CHS Athletic Department, the athletic boosters have invited artisans and vendors from all over the mid-Atlantic to feature their merchandise at the show. The Holiday Shop will offer a selection of jewelry, home accessories, clothing, woodcrafts, ceramics, bed and bath items and personalized gifts and food. The National Archives celebrated the nation's birth with "Declaration Days!" a two-day event filled with activities and performances for children and their families. Highlights of the event included signing a replica of the Declaration of Independence, placing a seal on the Treaty of Alliance, hunting for National Treasure and attending performances by historical re-enactors of Revolutionary War heroes such as Deborah Sampson, Peter Salem and Gen. Bernardo de Galvez. Lacey Dickinson of Fairfax Station, Alyssa Dolny of Clifton, Jung-Ah Kim of Centreville, and Leslie Sherman of Springfield, all of Centreville High School, provided invaluable assistance with a variety of activities that help family audiences better understand and appreciate the holdings of the National Archives and the events that led up to the nation's fight for independence. The National Archives and Records Administration is an independent Federal agency that preserves and shares with the public records that trace the story of our nation, government, and the American people. Liberty Middle School is looking for caring adults who can spare 30 minutes a day working with students. Tutoring takes place either any time between 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on school days, or after school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-4 p.m. Boys and girls need help with organizational skills, homework, or any one or all of the core subjects. Senior Christine Garzon has been promoted to the top leadership ranks of the Air Force Junior ROTC detachment at Randolph-Macon Academy. Christine is the daughter of Jose Garzon of Chantilly, and Susana Barton of Stoneham, MA.
Christine was awarded the rank of cadet captain, with the position of Deputy Support Officer. Only students with records of strong academics and leadership abilities are eligible for the Academy's cadet officer and non-commissioned officer ranks.
Mountain View School in Centreville is planning a 10-year reunion/celebration. The school, located on Spindle Court, first opened its doors as FCPS’s third adult/alternative high school in January 1996 and graduated its first class in June 1996. Since that time, more than 1,000 students have graduated from Mountain View.
A committee comprised of staff and graduates has begun meeting to plan events. In the works are small monthly commemorations followed by a “family reunion” picnic event in June 2006.

The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce Foundation has awarded Rose Antwi of Centreville a $2,000 scholarship toward her studies at the Northern Virginia Community College's Medical Education Campus (MEC), located in Springfield. The scholarship rewards a student who has, among other criteria, maintained a 3.0 GPA. Antwi is entering her second year at the MEC and is a nursing major.
