On Oct. 13 the Northrop Grumman Corporation of McLean was awarded a basic ordering agreement by the Transportation Security Administration. The agreement enables the company to compete for airport task orders for security screening services at airports nationwide.
The Northrop Grumman Corporation of McLean has named Linda A. Mills as vice president of operations and processes.
Cardinal Financial Corporation, based in Tysons Corner, recently delivered $32,000 to the American Red Cross National Capital. This initial check represents the first week of employee contributions and the Cardinal corporate matching funds in support of the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Cardinal is matching employee contributions, dollar for dollar, up to $50,000. In addition, Cardinal's 20 banking offices began accepting monetary donations from the public on Sept. 6.
Virginia Smiles, a Fairfax-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children born with a cleft lip and cleft palate, hosts a golf tournament to raise funds for its scholarship program on Thursday, Oct. 20, at noon, at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Clifton. Lunch will be provided before the tournament begins and prizes will be awarded during desserts afterward. The cost is $85 per golfer, or $340 per foursome, and includes green fees, golf cart, practice balls, prizes and desserts. Register online at www.Virginia-Smiles.org.
"The Virginia's Linked Workforce Showcase - Homeland Security" on Sept. 14 brought eight southwestern Virginia companies and 15 Northern Virginia companies together in Tysons Corner to facilitate the development of business partnerships that benefit both regions. Virginia Economic Bridge Inc., hosted its fifth Virginia's Linked Workforce Showcase in Tysons Corner on Sept. 14. brought eight south-western Virginia companies and 15 Northern Virginia companies together in Tysons Corner to facilitate the development of business partnerships that benefit both regions. The companies came together to meet, network, demonstrate their strengths and form valuable alliances that have the potential to create jobs in both regions while keeping lucrative contracts in the Commonwealth.
The focus for this Showcase was IT applications for Homeland Security. Showcase participants enjoyed an early morning breakfast presentation by former Under Secretary of Homeland Security, Asa Hutchison, hosted by the Northern Virginia Technology Council's B2G Committee. Following that timely presentation, the Homeland Security Showcase event began by bringing the 23 companies together for one-on-one, roundtable discussions. Senator Jeannemarie Devolites Davis, 34th District, addressed the Showcase members acknowledging the importance of the different regions of the state collaborating in economic development, for the benefit of the Commonwealth as a whole.
Northern Virginia companies that participated in the Homeland Security Showcase included: Alion Science & Technology; BTi; Booz Allen Hamilton; CGI-AMS; CSC; IPIX Corporation; Lockheed Martin MS2 Undersea Systems; Lorenz Research Associates, Inc.; Mitretek; NYTOR, Inc.; OMNITEC Solutions, Inc.; Oracle; Premier Data Services, Inc.; SRA International, Inc; and VIACK Corporation.
Southwestern Virginia companies that participated in the Homeland Security Showcase included: American Research Corporation of Virginia; Automation Creations, Inc.; Comprehensive Computer Solutions, Inc. (CCS); Datalink Systems, Inc.; G3 Systems; Identification International, Inc. (I3); nanoCom; and Virtual High Tech.
Northern Virginia companies found additional incentives to do business with SWVA companies because, in addition to expertise and innovation, many of the SWVA companies were certified as Small Business 8(a), HUBZone, Woman, Minority and Veteran-owned companies that help the larger primes meet Federal contracting requirements.
