The staff of the Herndon Parks and Recreation Department Entertainment sub-committee is looking for people to serve on the Citizens Advisory Committee. Meetings are 5 p.m. at the Herndon Community Center, and started Oct. 18. Candidates should have some background or knowledge of local, regional and national talent, must be willing to research and bring viable options to the table for consideration. This group acts as the first step in screening materials that are submitted for consideration and crafting a list of viable options for the executive committee to consider. The committee acts as a support entity and works under the supervision of the Performing Arts and Special Events Supervisor. Contact Holly Popple at 703-435-6800 or holly.popple@herndon-va.gov.

Citizens will begin to see more Park Operations Division maintenance workers in parks on weekends as the Fairfax County Park Authority begins a seven-day-a-week work schedule aimed at providing weekend service and assuring safe and clean facilities, as well providing a more visible staff presence in the parks.

One supervisor and two staff members will work in each of seven park management areas. Staff assignments begin at 6:30 a.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m. Others will be on call as needed. This increased staffing level will run annually from April through November, the period of time that coincides with peak park usage. Existing full time and seasonal positions will be utilized and fiscal impact will be limited. Contact the Public Information Office at 703-324-8662.
