Art on the Avenue in the Del Ray section of Alexandria will celebrate its 10th anniversary Saturday, Oct. 1, with displays by more than 300 area artists and craftspeople.
Held each fall on Mount Vernon Avenue between Hume and Bellefonte avenues, Art on the Avenue begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m. Entirely volunteer run, the event celebrates the diversity of this Potomac West community.
Starting as a block party in 1995, it now features in addition to the artists and artisans, a variety of international food, three stages of live music, children's craft activities and other entertainment. Arts and crafts demonstrations, street performers, a pie-baking contest, displays by the Alexandria Fire Department, and special events for adults and children are offered throughout the day.
Free trolley transportation to the festival will be provided from the Braddock Road Metro Station. For more information, call 703-683-3100 or visit www.artontheavenue.org.
