The Center for Excellence in Education, located in Tysons Corner, is the first U.S. non-governmental organization, to be chosen by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to host China's top government officials. The center will host a dinner event on April 20 and three breakfast symposia April 21 at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in D.C. The event will benefit the Center for Excellence in Education's inaugural education program, the Research Science Institute, in partnership with Fudan University and the Shanghai Educational Press Group for Shanghai's top science and technology students at Fudan University in Summer 2006. Attending the event will be Minister of Information Liu Ping Yuan, Vice Minister of Science and Technology Whang Lian Zheng, Vice Minister of Public Health Peng Yi and Vice Minister of Agriculture Zhang Chong Ming. Symposia guests will include corporate sponsors of the educational project in China. U.S. business and Chinese leaders will discuss doing business in China, proprietary interests, partnerships and equity positions. McLean-based Freddie Mac, a company established by Congress to support homeownership and rental housing, and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) announce a new financial outreach and education initiative to help FOP members in eight cities improve their financial decision-making skills. The 56,000 FOP members in Albuquerque, Chicago, Columbus, the District of Columbia, Miami, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and St. Louis will be encouraged to participate in CreditSmart, Freddie Mac's signature instructor-led financial literacy workshops.
